Our 12-month Multi-professional Preceptorship Programme provides a structured and supportive start for newly registered healthcare professionals, helping them transition confidently into autonomous practice.

The programme is also offered to experienced registrants:

  • Who are new to the NHS
  • Returning from a career break
  • Working in an acute hospital trust for the first time.

The programme welcomes registered nurses, nurse associates and allied health professionals (AHPs). While core principles are shared, AHPs benefit from bespoke sessions tailored to their roles. The programme is underpinned by the National Preceptorship Framework for Nursing and the AHP Preceptorship Standards and Framework.

Delivered through a hybrid model, the first three weeks combine classroom learning with clinical practice, ensuring theory is immediately applied in real-world settings. This is followed by monthly study days, which include:

  • Safe, high-quality patient care
  • Clinical skills and simulation
  • Communication and professionalism
  • Restorative Clinical Supervision
  • Personal Safety Training
  • Leadership and career development
  • Wellbeing days.

The programme of education is complimented by a package of clinical and pastoral support in the clinical areas throughout the year which includes:

  • A trained preceptor guiding the preceptee's professional development
  • Preceptorship champions and preceptors updated at bi-annual network forums
  • Practice development nurses support visits
  • Weekly 'Check-in Tuesdays' with the Preceptorship team
  • Access to the LUHFT Preceptorship App for programme resources and wellbeing links
  • A graduation event to celebrate programme completion.

We are also proud to partner with Mary’s Place to deliver dedicated wellbeing sessions for both preceptees and preceptors, supporting emotional resilience and holistic care.

Our dedicated Preceptorship Team has intentionally designed the programme to include a range of supportive offers such as listening events, preceptor development workshops, and pastoral care to ensure every preceptee feels valued and empowered as a member of #TeamLUHFT.
